My friend went job searching. The job offers available to him were all 2nd and 3rd shift. He accepted employment at a machine shop. The employer put him on the hardest, most unwanted job in the factory. He had to work a five machine rotation, standing up the whole time and at rapid speed to make a quota. He worked from 3 p.m. until midnight. The problem became when the supervisor told the department without notice that their shift would be extended to 2 a.m. until further notice, and would include Saturdays. My friend was breathing chemicals that caused his nose to bleed. The money was good, but he decided to leave after one week and try a different direction in his career.
He accepted employment working as a direct support care giver to people with disabilities. He is in training right now. The job requires many certifications. It is interesting and rewarding work. The hours are usually 4 p.m. until midnight with two overnight shifts. However, there is some flexibility in scheduling, as he can trade shifts with other workers. The pay is low, but there is room to be promoted.
